Press Release

hackedepicciotto

It is rare to find a musicians couple that has had such a historic influence on music as hackedepicciotto. With the Berlin born Alexander Hacke it is not only his 45 year-long collaboration as member of Einstürzende Neubauten (started in 1980). Already with 13 years he was experimenting with tape loops and early electronic music, writing his first hit at 14 “Hiroshima” which NME named single of the week. Danielle de Picciotto on the other hand, classically trained, began playing the piano and violin at 7 years of age. Moving from NYC to Berlin in 1987, she initiated the first Berlin Loveparade in 1989 with Dr Motte, which had 1.5 million followers after a couple of years, and quickly started collaborating with Gudrun Gut in composing some of the first female electronic music. Over the decades both Hacke & Picciotto have teamed up with countless bands and musicians, written theatre and film scores and participated in interdisciplinary projects.  The fact that they then got together in 2001 to found hackedepicciotto and a completely new form of music makes their journey truly impressive. Daniel Miller of their label MUTE RECORDS, goes on to say that “their music is a genre of its own, something new and very intriguing.” In 2010 they set out to travel the world as nomads, boldly defying convention, giving up their homes to challenge gentrification and becoming a modern, musical version of Bonnie and Clyde, racing from concert to concert, composing international theatre and film music together, and releasing albums at breakneck speed for 14 years. The duo names their music Symphonic Drone or Pastoral Industrial with its mixture of industrial and electronic beats, classical harmonies and melodies, an added pinch of throat singing, harmony singing, hurdy-gurdy screeching and spoken word.

In Juli 2025 hackedepicciotto settled back down in Berlin, thanks to an avid supporter who made a beautiful home possible and released their 10th and most successful album “Lichtung” in 2026. They will be touring with this album in 2026/27. Accompanied by Danielle de Picciottos visuals, the performance is an immersive experience that audiences frenetically applaud and journalists celebrate.

Press statements 2026:

“With the music’s wavering buoyancy, as it seems to climb hills and navigate deep rivers toward a safe pace, it feels like a song of acceptance, and therefore, of inner peace. It’s music of certainty and of sunlight.”  POPMATTERS (UK)

"An album capable of evoking in the listener a profound sense of detachment from the surrounding world."

IMPATOTSONORO (ITALY)

"The duo marks their return to Berlin with something that is one of a kind. Hacke and de Picciotto continue to excel outside comfort zones, because they know it’s where the best results are found." SUN 13 (UK)

"They speak of freedom and peace, love and tranquility—of the things that truly define life. They still exist: those islands of emotional sanity in this world."  Groove (GERMANY)

"The pieces are slow, but rich in various melodic patterns and percussive elements, which make their listening captivating, while the voices of the two protagonists are superimposed in a kind of incantation." BENZINE (FRANCE)

"Much like transcendent experiences of nature, the musical microcosm created by these two sound architects exerts a spellbinding pull. With their latest release, this experimental dream team achieves a hypnotic, seamless flow in which an ethereal mysticism of nature manifests itself, embedded within rich electronic soundscapes and trance-like industrial drones." KULTURFORUM (GEMANY)

“I hope this coupling always continue to make music. They’ve brought a seriousness but also near Dadaist and Surrealist legacy, plus a kind of industrial fairy tale sound, to soundscaping and capturing a most uniquely artful encapsulation of their woes, worries, loves and dreams.” MONOLITH COCKTAIL (UK)

“What is certain is that the album they have composed is among the most significant we have heard this year…” THE NEW NOISE (ITALY)
